A graduate of Castleberry High School, Dwight pursued studies at the University of North Texas before marrying Diane, the mother of his children, and began his professional career at General Dynamics. Shortly after marriage, he enlisted in the National Guard. Following a layoff from General Dynamics, Dwight took a bold step, founding his own painting company, DDM. Eventually, he transitioned into helping manage the family’s property development business, dedicating himself to its success until 2022.
Dwight’s passions were as vast as his heart. He loved sports, history, exploration, and, most of all, his family. An avid golfer, he could often be found on the course, relishing the game and the great outdoors. His love for travel took him across the world—from Spain to Viking cruises and countless destinations across the U.S.—always eager to immerse himself in different cultures and historical narratives. A dedicated sports fan, Dwight had a deep love for baseball, holding Texas Rangers season tickets and striving to visit as many Major League Baseball stadiums as possible. He was a lifelong learner, fascinated by history, past presidents, and great historical figures, firmly believing that "knowledge is power" and that "history always repeats itself."
Above all, Dwight’s greatest joy was his family. As he “matured,” he embraced every opportunity to express his love and presence in their lives. When his oldest grandson was born, he made a commitment to be there for every milestone—and that promise extended to all eight of his grandchildren. Whether it was school achievements, sporting events, or simply moments of celebration, Dwight was there, cheering them on, guiding them, and instilling in them the value of hard work and following their dreams. His pride in each of them was immeasurable.
Dwight was preceded in death by his father, Talmage “Jack” Ticknor; his mother, Elizabeth G’ean Ticknor; and his sister, Jacqueline Lane.
He is survived by his loving children: Michael (Tracy) Ticknor, Steven (Sabrina) Ticknor, and Melissa (Josh) Terry. His siblings: Bill Ticknor, Chris Ticknor, and Lisa (Greg) Gabbert. His beloved grandchildren: Tanner (Caroline) Ticknor, Tatum (Carter) Holt, Savannah (Reid) Roberts, Austin Ticknor, Charlotte Ticknor, Ava Terry, Audrey Terry, and Addison Terry. And his cherished great-granddaughter, Zoe Roberts.
Dwight’s legacy of love, wisdom, and unwavering support will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Dwight's funeral will be held on Monday, February 24th, 12 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home & Memorial Park 5725 Colleyville Blvd. Colleyville, TX 76034. Following the funeral, Dwight will be laid to rest in the memorial park.
