Born April 27, 1927, Lula Evelyn Hobbs joined her husband Bob and daughter Janice in Heaven on April 30, 2018. She passed away peacefully in her sleep just three days after celebrating her 91st birthday.
Born to Robert and Sally Mae McAnally in Rankin, Evelyn grew up in Austin with her three sisters in a home filled with laughter and love. She met her future husband Robert Alvin Hobbs while working the record counter at Woolworth’s in downtown Austin. Married in 1943, for 66 years they lived life as a grand adventure, never leaving each other’s side.
Bob & Evelyn moved to Hurst in the 50’s where they raised three children, then moved to Eagle Mountain Lake in the late 60’s where they helped raise 5 grandchildren. By the 80’s they were living in Meridian on 30 acres, before finally “settling down” in Tool 2000.
Travel was the norm, all around the country in their motorhomes, sailing the seas on cruises, or taking vacations to various locales; almost always taking family along in tow. There was always something new to see or somewhere new to go. They were the nexus of a huge extended family, with large holiday celebrations, giant family reunions, and constant get togethers just to hang out; there were always friends to visit and family to spend time with.
Evelyn was the constant caretaker through it all, and her heart was always with her family. She was always available to provide support and encouragement, with love and hot meal, and absolutely anything she could do to help. Whether running departments for Montgomery Wards, the café at Twin Points, singing in the church choir, or any number of projects and hobbies; she excelled at all from a desire and a calling to contribute. Her joy and happiness came from a life spent in service to God, Family, and friends; and we are all richer for having her in our lives.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert and her daughter Janice, by her parents Robert and Mae McAnally, and her sister Jo Colley.
Evelyn is survived by her sisters Doris Parker and Betty Strongbow. By her son Robert Alvin Hobbs Jr and his wife Darlia. Son Gary Hobbs, and son-in-law Terry Ellis. Grandchildren: Randy Hobbs, Tammy Maas and her husband Harry, James Ellis and his wife Kary, Chris Hobbs, and Cassie Neil. Great-Grandchildren Marc Alcorn, Kristyl Fleck, JT Middleton, Logan Maas, Brenna King, Justin Hobbs, Nathaniel Lee, Han Maas, Jaedyn Hobbs, Zack Neill, Danny Maas, Ashlyn Hobbs, and Connor Ellis. Great-Great-Granddaughter Maya Hobbs.
