Our sweet, beautiful Mother has joined the angels in heaven. God ended her suffering and granted her peace at 12:32am on April 15, 2022. She was surrounded by her family.
She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and soon to be Great-Great-Grandmother. We will miss her dearly, but have found comfort in the outpouring of love, support, and prayers from our extended family and dear friends.
Gaye was born on June 16th, 1932 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Sometime after the death of her father, she and her mother moved to Dallas, Texas where she graduated from Adamson High School. She met her husband of 55 years on January 19, 1951, and married him after just one month, on February 19, 1951. She began her career with the United States Postal Service and rose to the position of Regional Postal Examiner where she trained Postmasters. She retired on disability from the Postal Service in 1970 due to injuries sustained in a severe car accident in 1969. She returned to the workforce when her dear friend, J.P. Ashley, asked her to come work for him as Secretary of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 226 in Fort Worth while he served as their President. They worked hard and laughed hard together for 22 years. She was an only child, but she always thought of J.P. as her brother. She then worked as a secretary for her son-in-law, Mike Briscoe, and grandson, Zack Briscoe, at Mike Briscoe Insurance. Her last employment was with TWA at DFW Airport as a PBX Operator. Gaye was also honored as an Admiral in the Texas Navy by Governor Dolph Briscoe.
Gaye was a people person. The first time you came to her home you were a guest, but after that you were family. After she retired she became a voracious reader, sometimes reading more than one book a day. She enjoyed music and dancing, but her very favorite thing was the holidays because that always meant seeing the grandchildren and great-grandchildren she so lovingly adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents Posey and Effie Lawrence Carden Putnam, and her husband, Patrick John Lambert, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Patrick Lambert, her daughters, Vicki Goode and husband Robert, and Cindy Briscoe and husband Mike, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one soon to be great-great-grandson, and her beloved dog, Boston, along with a whole host of nieces and nephews, plus friends she thought of as family.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the amazing Caregivers at St. John’s Residential Care Home, along with the extraordinary Nurses, Aides, Chaplain, and Social workers from Beyond Faith Hospice.
