

Glenn Ponder Porterfield, 75, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014. After five years of battling multiple illnesses culminating last week with a diagnosis of advanced cancer, he peacefully passed from this life with family members at his side. As a passionate golfer, Glenn now enjoys the ultimate golf course pain-free in heaven.
Memorial service: A celebration of Glenn's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Legacy Church of Christ, 8801 Mid-Cities Blvd., North Richland Hills. Glenn chose to donate his body to science at UNT Health Science Center of Fort Worth.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Payton, Billy Byers, Robert McMillon, Paul Lucas, Jim Key and Dick Bartek.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lifeline Chaplaincy, 2701 W. Berry St., Suite 102-103, Fort Worth, Texas 76109, or a charity of choice.
Glenn was born Jan. 7, 1939, in Nashville, Ark., to George Stephen and Dora Dean Ponder Porterfield. He and his parents moved to Weatherford when Glenn was 7. After graduating from Weatherford High School in 1957, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1960. He attended the University of North Texas in Denton and graduated in 1963 with a BBA in accounting and then the University of Wisconsin, School of Bank Administration, in 1971. Glenn began his 36-year career in banking with Republic Bank in Dallas in 1966. He then began serving as president for First National Bank of Euless in 1980, Lake Worth National Bank in 1987 and in 1997 Western American National Bank until his retirement in 2002.
Glenn passionately believed in the vital role of the local bank to its community. He also personally contributed to those communities by serving as a board member or president of 15 different civic organizations including the last 15 years as a member of the Euless City Council. Glenn loved his Lord and was a faithful and active member of the Churches of Christ all his life, serving as deacon and song leader. Glenn enthusiastically enjoyed the game of golf and especially the fellowship the game allowed with his friends.
Survivors: Wife, Diane Winston Porterfield; daughters, Karen Ashby and husband, Scott, of Paradise Valley, Ariz., and Cindy Guthrie and husband, Dwayne, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; son, Mark Porterfield and wife, Joni, of North Richland Hills; stepsons, Greg and Bryan Carson of Rincon, Puerto Rico; grandchildren, Nicole Ashby Miller and husband, Grant, of Pasadena, Calif., Brook Ashby of Paradise Valley, Ariz., Brittany Ashby Hammack and husband, Chris, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Trent Ashby of Los Angeles, Calif., Travis Guthrie and wife, Reagan, of Edmond, Okla., Kristen Guthrie Rivera and husband, Sergio, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Caroline Guthrie of Edmond, Okla.; stepgrandson, Meshach Carson; and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Harper, Josie and Charlie.
