Hubert Eugene “Gene” Perkins, born on December 18, 1936, in Fort Worth, TX, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was 89 years young.
Gene was known for his warm heart, quick wit, and welcoming spirit. He had a special way of making everyone feel at home, whether you had known him for years or had just met him. A hardworking man throughout his life, he held many roles, but his favorite was working alongside his brothers at Perkins Aircraft Services, where he took great pride in his work.
Whether it was working in the yard or garden, or prepping for holiday games like putt-putt, plinko, racecars, and darts, Gene stayed busy. More importantly, he was always there for his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will attest— “Papaw” never missed a sporting event, graduation, birthday celebration, or milestone. He was there for it all, with the biggest smile on his face and a video camera in hand, capturing moments that will be cherished for generations.
Above all, Gene was a devoted husband of 68 years, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was their biggest supporter and a steady, loving presence in their lives. Anyone who knew Gene knew how deeply he loved—and how easily he made others feel that same love in return.
In his younger years, Gene loved playing golf. Though injuries eventually kept him off the course, his passion for the game never faded. He remained an avid fan, rarely missing a PGA tournament on TV, and especially looked forward to watching The Masters each year.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mackie his two daughters, Lisa Mathis and Paula Hiett (Todd); his four grandchildren, Justin Mathis (Emily), Brittany Pitts (Clay), Blake Hiett (Leah), and Blane Hiett (Peyton), his four great-granddaughters, Brylee, Carsyn, Finley, and Hattie, his two brothers, Don Perkins (Shelly) and Jim Perkins (Patsy) and numerous nieces and nephews —all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and faith.
Gene will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though it is hard to imagine life without him, we take comfort in knowing his life was full, his love was felt deeply, and his legacy will continue through each of us.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 10:30 am at Allison Baptist Church, 9926 Allison Court, Lipan, TX 76462 with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
