

On August 22, 2023 James went to be with the Lord. James was born on March 12, 1926 in Reagan, Tennessee to Nettie Electra and Jeffrey Gertrude Thompson. In 1944, James volunteered and joined the 94th Division of the Army Infantry under General George S. Patton and served in various countries in Europe until 1946. Following the war, he served as a guard at the Nurenberg Trials. After the war, he returned to Tennessee and married his sweetheart, Barbara Benson in 1950 with whom he shared two sons. James had a 46-year career as a truck driver, and then in retirement, enjoyed dancing, music, spending time at the senior citizen center, and being active in his church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Opal Woody Garner, Herman Thompson, and Robert Lanier Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Barbara Thompson, son Harold and wife Elena, son Rick and wife Karen, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
The visitation will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas 76034 on Friday, August 25th from 5-7pm. A celebration of life will be held at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 2701 Harwood Rd, Bedford, Texas 76021 at 11am on Saturday, August 26th.
