

Erma "Jane" Mathis, a devoted wife, cherished family member, and talented artist, passed away on Saturday, June 10th, 2023, in her home in beautiful Bosque County, Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and a life well-lived. Her presence will forever be missed, but her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jane was born on September 22nd, 1940, to Robert and Pearl Mathis in Ebony, Arkansas, the fourth of six children. She grew up with a passion for art and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the countryside. From an early age, Jane cultivated her artistic talents, finding inspiration in the natural world around her. Her ability to capture the essence of landscapes, flora, and fauna with her paintbrush was truly remarkable, and her artwork remains a testament to her extraordinary talent.
In 1976, Jane married Ralph Clark, and the two were inseparable from that point on. They built a life together filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Jane and Ralph were married for over 48 years and created a blended family of six children: Debra Sue Clark, Drew Johnson, Dedra Johnson, Ernest "John" Johnson, Ralph "Wendell" Clark, Jr., and Aleshia "Lisa" Johnson.
Jane was a fiercely dedicated mom to all six children, raising them with Southern manners and Christian values. The family always came first and was above all else to Jane. She treasured her role as a grandmother and was adored by several grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom she showered with love and affection, always offering support, wisdom, and shared experiences.
Jane will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a talented artist. Her legacy lives on through her beautiful artwork, the love she shared with her family, and the impact she had on the lives of those she touched. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us to find beauty and joy in every moment of our lives.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, Pearl and Robert Mathis, her sisters, Bobbie Mathis Briggs and Doris Mathis Johnson, and her daughter Debra Sue Clark.
Surviving her are her beloved husband, Ralph Clark, along with their children and their spouses: Drew Johnson and his wife, Darby; Ernest Johnson and his wife, Peggy; Wendell Clark; Lisa Kuhlmann and her husband, Frank. Her cherished grandchildren include Michael Johnson, Alyssa Sloan, Ashley Toney, Ryan Britt, Ryan Clark, and Meghan Clark, Aaron Barber, Jennie Bowers, Ashley Vondran, Sean Barber, and Louis Barber. Jane is also survived by her siblings: Peggy Thompson, James "Jimmy" Mathis and his wife Linda, and Jerri Silva. Additionally, she leaves behind a large extended family comprising numerous nieces and nephews whom she held dear in her heart.
