Maury was born in 1928 in Magnolia, Mississippi to George & Zula May Seitz. He graduated from McComb High School in McComb, Mississippi, and immediately took to the air with his first solo flight in a J-5A Piper Cub Cruiser “Cubby” at age 14. He flew for the Air Force through the cold war, with the 323rd Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron in clandestine refueling missions over the Eastern Bloc. The Air Force is where he met his wife, Captain Mildred Jean Disque. She was the greatest love of his life. After years of service, Captain Seitz and Mildred moved to Levittown, NY, where he began to fly for American Airlines as a commercial pilot. During this time, he was co-pilot on numerous chartered flights that backed up Air Force One during the Kennedy presidency. He met the Kennedy family and spent time with Caroline and John Jr. During the Cuban missile crisis, his plane carried a JFK decoy during a top-secret flight. Maury and Mildred later moved to Texas in 1977, where he eventually retired after over 30 years as a commercial pilot.
Maury was always active in his community. He one of the founders of the Cantiague Figure Skating Club in Hicksville, NY. He was a supporter of the Richland High School Band, in North Richland Hills, TX. He shared his passion for aviation with local Boy Scout & Girl Scout chapters, and sponsored field trips to airfields from local schools. He contributed to the Tarrant County Community College Aviation Library in Hurst, TX, the Airpower Museum at the Antique Airfield in Blakesberg, IA, and the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, TX. He was a member of the AOPA, the Allied Pilots Association, the Grey Eagles, and the Antique Aircraft Association.
