

Jim B. Gaston of Keller, Texas, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015, in Vitas Hospice at Baylor Hospital after a long fight against Alzheimer’s disease. Jim was born in Panola County in East Texas on October 5, 1928, to Jim Dee and Jewel Brown Gaston. Jim was the oldest of 10 children. He attended school in the old Chapman Community Schoolhouse and later in Henderson, Texas. He took great pride in the fact that he grew up on a farm in East Texas. From all the hard work to the fun of hours exploring the “Big Woods” surrounding their family home, Jim considered his to be the ideal childhood. His military career was spent in Japan in the Army of Occupation at the end of WWII. It was there that Jim developed a love for the trucking industry which was to become his life-long career. In 1954 Jim went to work for East Texas Motor Freight in Dallas working his way through the ranks from city driver to terminal manager of several locations that included Little Rock AR, Longview, Lufkin and Ft Worth, TX. In 1975 Jim married Jan Knight Walker. Three years later Jim and Jan began their own trucking company, Chaparral Delivery Service, Inc., which over the next 28 years had grown into Chaparral Truckload, LLC. Jim had been a member of North Richland Hills Baptist Church since 1980. During this time he served on the first board of directors for the newly created Cornerstone Assistance Network. He also served on the board for Gospel Harvesters International which allowed him the opportunity to travel to Romania, Hungary and India. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters as well as a daughter, Karen Gail Groves. Survivors include his wife, Jan K Gaston children who considered him their loving father: Sherri Olsen, Jay T Walker and wife Laura; Jerry Talbot and her husband, Tom; sister Margie Ann Smith and her husband Rev. Gene Smith, and 2 brothers Edwin Gaston and his wife Neva Nell, and Darrell Gaston all of Henderson, Tx; and a sister, Deborah Shirley, of Troupe, Tx, along with 10 grandchildren and 8 great- grand children as well as extended family and a host of wonderful friends. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that contributions be made in Jim’s memory to Cornerstone Assistance Network in Ft Worth or Gospel Harvesters International located in Hurst, Texas. Memorial Service: 1:00 PM, Monday, March 16, North Richland Hills Baptist Church followed by Family Visitation and Reception.
