June Deleon

June DeLeon, 86, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 after a prolonged illness. She was born Mary June Minyard in Martinez, Georgia on March 4, 1933 to William Loyd Minyard and Ruby Mae Martin. If you called her Mary….you better watch out! She was known to those who loved her the most as June June.

She would often say “We didn’t know we were poor, we thought everyone lived like we did.” They kept the butter and milk in the creek down from their house and drew water from that same creek. She milked cows, picked cotton and fed the chickens sometimes through the wooden planks in the floor if they were under the house. She married Paul “Leo” DeLeon on her 18th birthday and they were married for fifty years until his death in 2001. She worked as a toolmaker at General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin and worked the night shift. Her work ethic was strong and she passed along those same values to her children and grandchildren.

Her legacy will be her family and her role as mother, grandmother and friend. She was extremely devoted to her family and every person who walked through her front door was treated with kindness and respect. And usually fed a really good meal! She made everyone feel special and when you would say that you loved her…she would always respond with “I love you more”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Katherine, Annie Mae and Louise, her husband Leo, and great grandchild Dillion. She leaves behind her three children and their spouses: Guy DeLeon (Karen), Ty DeLeon (Vicki) and Melissa Reece (Mark); seven grandchildren: Amanda DeLeon, Dana DeLeon, Derek DeLeon (Vivian), Rachel DeLeon Branim (Zeke), Colton Reece, Dakota Reece and McKenzie Reece; three great grandchildren: Isabella DeLeon, Angelina Morales and Alexander DeLeon; her roommate Betty Reece and long time friend Rebecca Kidd. There are numerous nieces and nephews and friends as well.
