Kathleen Turner Rovegno (“Kate”) died on November 30, 2021 after battling health challenges for several years. She had just spent the Thanksgiving week with her sisters, children and grandchildren, laughing, dining, and folding a load of their laundry to help with the work of traveling with young children.
Kate was born in Amsterdam, New York on September 18th, 1946 to Ruth and Richard Turner, the second of four daughters. After graduating from the University of Dayton with a B.S. in Marketing, she spent the early part of her career with General Electric in Fairfield, Connecticut. After the birth of the oldest of her three children with Robert Rovegno, her husband of 23 years, she spent the next decade at home. In the late 1980’s, she returned to the business world while continuing to support her large and active family through multiple cross country moves and countless school and life events. She retired in Dallas, Texas in the mid 2000s after spending her last working years as the first head of Finance and HR for her son’s newly launched technology company, a situation that gave her so much pride, and joy. She spent her retirement enjoying her growing family and in the companionship of her youngest daughter, neighbor, and best friend as they helped each other with all things home and family.
To think of Kate is to think of her sisters. The foursome was as inseparable as possible while living in different states at various times. Encountering them at reunions likely meant enjoying their harmonious renditions of classic showtunes and hymns. They celebrated family milestones with elaborately designed tributes (again, often musical, but also in verse, or on vacations). Their closeness and affection were a defining feature of Kate’s life along with the lives of her entire multi-generational extended family.
When Kate’s descendants pray and worship, or go to the library for as many books as they can carry, or engage in any form of needle crafting, they are experiencing moments she loved so much throughout her own life. They may always picture her when they hear Barry Manilow songs, eat alfredo based cuisine, enjoy lemony desserts, or see small, white, furry companions keeping their people such good company. Her unfailingly sharp sense of humor fully lives on in her family, although her daughters may never agree between themselves on which of the two is in fact the funniest.
Kate leaves a legacy of quotable reminders (some from her own mother) about the blessings of a gracious God. Treasured by her dear sisters, children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces, Kate will be missed and remembered for her laughter, love, and devotion to faith and family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Colleyville, TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions/donations can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society - Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church. 2323 Cheyenne Street, Irving Texas 75062.
