After attending Tarleton State University and participating in ROTC, Sul Ross State University became his alma mater when he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965.

He worked in the insurance and oil and gas industries for many successful years. His family, however, was always his top priority. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, parents, children, and grandchildren. He provided many opportunities for his children to succeed through FFA showing of Santa Gertrudis, Pee Wee football and beyond, from Playday rodeos to North Texas High School Rodeo Association Championships for his daughter, Trisha. On the informal side of judging, “PawPaw” would lovingly score his grandkids dives into the pool, dances and songs on the hearth with mostly nines and tens. After the boys were no longer playing football, Pat enjoyed high school football playoffs with them when possible. The family homestead, in Gorman, Texas was the first place where farming was a family affair growing vegetables and feeding the catfish in the pond. Pat and family took on ranching and hay production as a side hobby for several years providing a beautiful area of land for his family to enjoy for years to come. Pat enjoyed barbequing and having his family and holiday times. Pat was raised to the degree of Master Mason in the Andrews Lodge and a charter member of Scottish Rite in Fort Worth.
