He will always be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather great grandfather and friend to all who knew and loved him. He was born on May 25, 1933 in Hayes County, Nebraska to Frank Kahler and Emma Hayden Kahler.
Leon grew up in Maywood, Nebraska and graduated from Maywood High School in 1951. After 2 years at McCook Jr. College, he entered the Air Force Aviation Cadet program, and was sworn into the Air Force in Omaha, Nebraska. He met and married school teacher Carolyn Janet Nichols on Feb. 21, 1957 while at Ramey AFB in Puerto Rico. He then went on to complete Air Force Advanced Pilot training, and served in active duty in the Suez Crisis and Vietnam.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1965, Leon became an American Airlines pilot, retiring as Captain in 1993. He was consistently active in church ministry enthusiastically supported missions, and passionately loved the study of God's Word.
Leon is survived by son R. Blaine Kahler (Susan), of Trophy Club, TX, daughter Julie A. Kahler of Greenville, SC, daughter Shawn A. Lutz (John) of Greer, SC and daughter Kerry Kahler Morin (Ernie) of Colleyville, TX, sister Norma Welker of Shelby, Montana: grandchildren Benjamin Cross, Lukas Cross (Randi). Lily Roesch (Chris). Morgan Graybill (Brian), Meredith Ridge (Jamey), and Micah Lutz (Hannah). He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Janet Kahler; siblings Genevieve Welker, Kenneth Kahler, Eva Schmitz, Neva Kahler, Herbert Kahler, and grandson Peter K. Cross.
Mr. Kahler will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, January 29th at 1:00pm.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, Jan 30th at 3:00 pm at Bear Creek Bible Church, 1555 N Tarrant Pkwy, Keller, TX 76248.
