

Loyd (PAPA) Garner Huggins, also known as Huggie, passed away on January 4, 2024, at the age of 95 in Hurst, Texas. He was born in Hardeman County on December 5, 1928. Loyd will be remembered as a smart, witty, funny, and adventurous individual who was never afraid to try anything.
Loyd is survived by his daughters: Julie Lewis and Debra Cannon, son-in-law Aubrey (Sparky) Lewis, granddaughters Melissa Lewis Smith, Holly Lewis-Gregg, and Amanda Cannon Burns, grandson Randall Cannon, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 68 years, Clara Huggins. Also his five brothers and sisters: Earnest, Nicholas, Juanita, Pearl, Lilly, Cleo, Marie, Lowell, and Ruby. Loyd's career began at a young age when he taught himself how to take cars apart and put them back together. On Saturday nights, Loyd and his siblings played musical instruments and sang country gospel on live radio.
At the age of 15, Loyd received a call from American Airlines, where he worked for over 35 years in the airline industry. After retiring from American Airlines, he spent most of his summers in cool Colorado, enjoying his travel trailer.
Loyd was one of the founders of Legacy Church of Christ, where he worshipped. In his free time, Loyd loved working on old cars, collecting antiques, repairing old clocks, and refinishing furniture.
