Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Warren and Zoe Gammon, he hurried to Texas as fast as he could. He grew up in Nocona, Texas and then Fort Worth, graduating from Richland High School. He married the love of his life, Susan Dunn, in 1983. They were blessed with two sons, Taylor and Mitchell.
Joining the family apparel manufacturing business, Gammon of Dallas, he learned from the best. Bob branched out to outerwear, as a sales representative for several New York firms. Always on the lookout for new products and opportunities, he began manufacturing and marketing the “Hideout Hut”. (a huge hit with his nieces and nephews!) Known to be a “serial” entrepreneur, Bob launched an exciting chapter into western outerwear with his Down Under Australian Outfitters and TrailDuster labels. Based out of offices in the Deep Ellum area, his products were sewn in Texas, Costa Rica and Australia.
Many times concurrently with other pursuits, Bob had always been a real estate investor / developer at heart. Always passionate about finding “the next deal”, this stayed with him until the last days at his desk. If he wasn’t pursuing real estate, he was probably buying or selling a car or trailer. He will always be remembered as an honest, astute businessman with a sharp mathematical mind.
Family was always his top priority. Whether planning a Christmas parade float for school, sponsoring his sons’ hockey teams or building a big prop for the school talent show, Bob treated it like a business project. His greatest joy was seeing his children happy and thriving.
Bob was a straight shooter with many stories to tell and memorable sayings. (Bobisms) Beneath his Texas-tough exterior was a man with a heart of gold. Generous with his time and funds.
He leaves us rich in memories.
His wife, Susan D. Gammon and sons, Taylor (Amber) and Mitchell (Elise), his sister, Carla Gammon LaBarba (Sherman) and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews, survive him.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, 3:00pm at Bluebonnet Hills, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034
