Rodney MooneyHam was born October 19, 1968, in Dallas, Texas.
He received his BAAS in Criminal Justice from Midwestern State University. Rodney married Karen Renee MooneyHam on April 12, 2003.
He had a passion for sports and fitness. Rodney coached for the Dirtbags youth baseball team. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns.
Rodney made a career in Law Enforcement for the City of Denton Police Department. He began his career with Denton PD in November 2010. Rodney became a detective in July 2017 and was assigned to General Investigations before transferring to the Major Crimes Unit in June 2019. While in Majors, Rodney led several homicide investigations and took part in numerous high-profile cases. As a dedicated detective and team player, Rodney was vital in the successful apprehension and prosecution of numerous violent offenders. He received nine commendations during his time with Denton PD, including a Chief’s Commendation.
Throughout Rodney’s career, multiple community members contacted the department to express their appreciation for his service and compassion when answering their calls for assistance. The supervisors and officers who worked closely with Rodney also expressed praise for his work and his care and concern for others.
The Denton Police Department announced Rodney’s passing, by stating the following.
“Rodney was always smiling. Always willing to listen, he checked on his friends and coworkers regularly. Rodney was a devoted husband, father, and detective. Rodney loved his kids and was always doing whatever he could for them. Rodney was a coach for his son’s baseball team, the Dirtbags, and he also spoke highly of his daughter’s swimming achievements. Rodney was the kind of person that people enjoyed being around. He will be dearly missed by all.

Rodney is preceded in death by his father, Robert "R.L." MooneyHam; mother, Peggy MooneyHam; and step dad Perry Camper.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Karen Renee MooneyHam; daughter, Skylar Renee MooneyHam; and son, Ryder Lane MooneyHam. He is also survived by his brother, Ricky MooneyHam (wife Barbara); sister, Becky Breeland (husband Scott); sister, Pamala Roberson (husband Bryan); Bonus brother, Doug Wheeler (wife Sharon); Bonus brother, Lance Yager (wife Tandy); sister in law, Pam Kretzmer (husband Bill); brother in law, Roger Davidson (wife Kimberly); mother in law, Beverly Davidson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas 76034.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 12:30pm at First Baptist Colleyville, located at 5300 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034
Interment will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in the Garden of Columns.
