On Saturday, February 27th, 2021, Shirley Jean Mercer, of Euless passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years old. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the kind of person, that if you knew her, you loved her. She always had a smile that could warm your heart. Shirley loved her family more than anything and always wanted the best for them. She was a giving, kind sweet soul.
Shirley was born on January 5, 1931 to Lloyd and Marie Bird in Decatur, TX. Shirley graduated from Bridgeport High School and then went on to marry Bill Mercer on July 2, 1948. She had a passion for banking and worked for First National Bank of Arlington and in her later years at Chase Bank. She was a member of the Euless Historical Society and a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Euless, where she volunteered. She loved giving her time to the church and helping out where she could.
She had a passion for sewing and making crafts. For many years Shirley and Bill would plan and attend Naval Reunions (for Bill’s shipmates) across the country. She loved to travel and gamble when she was able.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Bill Mercer.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Markey Tracht (Jack), Debbie Ragsdill (Steve) and Kay Martinez (Noe); five grandchildren, Scott, Angie, Jeff, Traci and Kristy and eleven great grandchildren and many other family members and friends. Shirley will be deeply missed, but we cherish knowing she is with Bill again.
Visitation will be from 4:30-6:30pm, Monday, March 8, 2021 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville, Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30am, Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery for immediate family only.
