It is with unbelievable sadness we announce the passing of Sondra Cecile Couch De Lawyer. She passed peacefully the night of February 25th with her husband and children by her side. Sondra courageously fought the battle with breast cancer for 15 years. Despite her struggles, she enjoyed life to its fullest and made the most of every day.
Sondra, daughter of the late Marcus and Cecile Couch, was born on December 20, 1964 in Hayward, CA. She attended the American Heritage Christian School (1983). She received her undergraduate in Anthropology and French (1987) from California State University East Bay. She then completed her master’s degree (1989) in Anthropology and was published in numerous articles including the C.E. Smith Museum Bulletin. She was an avid international traveler, visiting France, Egypt, Great Britain, and many countries in Northern Europe.
Sondra was united in holy matrimony to Bert Del De Lawyer in December of 1992 in Lake Tahoe, CA. This union was blessed with three loving children and soon to be grandchild.
Sondra successfully owned her own business with Bert for 23 years. She loved reading and writing and often wrote fictional stories depicting her children’s lives. She maintained an inspirational blog, “The Brite Side of Life” discussing her experiences battling cancer, as well as providing insight and positivity to her followers. Additionally, she was working on a self-novel of a mother surviving breast cancer before her passing.
Sondra resided in Texas for the last 30 years. She continued to travel the world despite her diagnosis. She and Bert explored Italy, Greece, Turkey, to name a few. She loved cruises and island vacations. She was a frequent visitor of Disney World and Disneyland, making many magical memories with her husband and children by her side.
In addition to all the joys in her life, Sondra was an avid doll collector and amassed a collection of over 1,000 dolls. She loved to decorate the house with her dolls and other worldly collectables, such as Venetian masks, Kachina dolls, and fine china, to keep her space lively.
She is survived by her spouse, Bert, their children, Tatiana and husband Colton, Katerina, and Alexander, and one brother, Pierrot Couch, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus and Cecile Couch.
