She married John S Slimak on November 11, 1953, and raised a daughter and 3 sons in Tampa, Florida.
Verlie and her husband relocated from Florida to Texas and from day one she embraced the culture. She had a fondness for southwest art, native flowers, and the Texas Rangers. Verlie spent many afternoons sitting by John's side while he gardened, and was also Bruno Mars's number 1 fan.
Our mother loved her family and outshined all in her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy.
Throughout her life, she was always ready to give everything she had to her friends and family. Her door was always open with arms ready for hugs and a listening ear for all in need.
Verlie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her brothers Louis, Raymond, and their spouses; and her dearest friend, Virginia Gunn.
She is survived by her daughter, Verlie; her sons, John and his wife Lisa, Shawn and his wife Elizabeth, and Jason and his wife Fallon; her grandchildren, John Drew, Justin, Jayde, Katherine and her wife Ingrid, Shawn Jr., Jermaine, Zachary, Cody, Hunter, Kadence, and Karli; sisters, Helen and Catherine; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Verlie's life will be held on December 17, 2021, at 3:00 pm at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd. Colleyville, Texas 76034.
