Vivian was born Nov. 7, 1914, in Harvard, Ill. She was a sickly little girl who wasn't expected to reach adulthood, but she fooled them all. She survived and thrived and led a long and happy life. She fell in love and married Haydn Grant in July 1934. Together, they raised three kids in the Chicago area, and then moved to Texas in the early '70s. Texas has been home ever since.
She was a natural-born nurturer who took in people like others take in stray animals. She was the center and foundation of her family. Her door and her heart were always open, and she was always ready to visit, listen, play games, or advise.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Haydn; her son, Phil; and her granddaughter, Marcia Anderson.
Survivors: She is survived by her children, Karen Smith, Alan Grant and Mark Baker; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; along with all the others who have come to be such an important part of her loving family.
