

Wanda Loyce Barnes-Higdon passed away peacefully in Boerne on Saturday evening, Aug. 29, 2015, at the age of 78 years young, surrounded by her family. Celebration of life: 10 a.m. Thursday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Wanda was born in Corsicana in 1937. She was one of eight children, along with four brothers and three sisters, to Marcus Eugene and Jewel Evelyn Barnes. Wanda graduated from Diamond Hill High School in Fort Worth and attended college at TCC. Wanda married the love of her life, Jack M. Higdon. Together, they had three children, Randy, Tracey and Kelly. Wanda worked for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for many years in marketing and promotions of the Golden Gloves and the National Spelling Bee. She later retired from GMAC in Fort Worth. Wanda loved God, family, friends, travel, reading, fashion and laughter. She was preceded in death by husband, Jack; son, Randy; and daughter, Kelly. Survivors: Wanda is survived by her daughter, Tracey and husband, Burl Yarbrough, of Boerne; grandchildren, Taylor (Ryan) Gordner, Alexandra Yarbrough, Courtney (Brandon) VanZant, and Kelsey Beckum; great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Ryder, Aubrey, Annabell and Kase; sisters, Linda Wilson and Jo Anne Clubb; and brother, Kenneth Barnes.
