William Benjamin Bearden "Ben" was born on February 6, 1935, in Haleyville, Alabama. He graduated from Haleyville high school. Ben's first marriage was to Corine Bearden on July 15, 1959. He was married a second time to Judith Wolf in 1998.
Ben worked for Sonoco Products, previously Boise Cascade, and retired at the age of 62. He enjoyed working on cars or anything that he could take apart and put back together. He loved the challenge of making it work again if it didn’t, or just taking something apart even if it was working just because he could.
As a hobby, he loved playing the guitar, harmonica, and singing (well he called it singing, even though he could not hold a tune, LOL). He would go to the community center close to his house and play as often as he could with all the other retirees until his health did not allow him to do it anymore. You could not ever miss him if he was out and about. He always had a pair of blue jean overalls, a long gray beard, and gray hair; he even looked like Santa Clause, which all his great kids called him.
We fought a long battle with him when it came to Jesus, he told us during his hospital stay that at the age of 10 he spent a lot of time on his knees and he told God that he wasn’t done with his meanness yet, and boy did that continue his whole life. However, on Thursday, three days before his passing he kept saying that if there is a God, I hope he can forgive me. The family asked the chaplain from the hospital to come and sit and talk with him. Ben asked Jesus to come into his life, and it was an automatic peace that came over him as soon as he did. Praise the Lord, we will see him again in Heaven.
