Mr. William Thomas Lybrand

pandemic. He was 87 years old.

He was born at the original Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX on January 24, 1933. He grew up in a house on the corner of Lemmon Ave and Miles street. He attended Maple Lawn Elementary School, then North Dallas High School, and then earned a BBA from North Texas State College (now known as the University of North Texas). During college he joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) with intentions of becoming a pilot. Left with imperfect vision after contracting the Measles he no longer qualified to be a pilot. After graduating he opted for a short non-commissioned officer position and served our country as a Sergeant in the Adjutant General’s office of Fort Bliss near El Paso, TX.

After serving our country, he returned to North Texas State College and earned a MBA degree

in accounting. He was a founding member of the college’s chapter of Delta Sigma Pi business

fraternal organization. With his advanced degree he landed an auditor’s job at I.B.M. His

cousin Anna Bennett, who worked at the government’s General Accounting Office, set him up

on a date with a co-worker named Patricia Peteet. The two got along very well and dated for a

while. Bill proposed marriage to Pat in the Fall of 1960. Pat replied, “We will have to talk about

it.” Almost a month later Pat passed Bill a note during church stating that she would marry him

but he must always take her to church on Sunday and they must have three children. They

married in 1961 at the Garland Road Church of Christ by Pat’s favorite preacher Adair

Chapman.

At that time I.B.M. didn’t allow their auditors to be married (it required full time travel), so Bill

transferred to the computer programming department. A move that shaped the remainder of his

career. He made several job moves improving his positions working for Admiral Oil (in

Oklahoma City), Allstate Insurance, G.T.E., Recognition Equipment Inc., and The University

Computer Company (U.C.C.). He created his own company, Accutrol, Inc. and provided custom

computer programming for many other companies on a contract basis. In 1983 one of the

contracts led to becoming the Vice President of Programming for a pharmacy software company

named TBL. TBL was purchased by the Foxmeyer drug company where he stayed several

years until moving to Video International Productions (VIP) which created automated VHS rental

machines similar to today’s “Red Box”. He and three partners started Liberty Computer Service

competing again in the retail pharmacy computer market. He purchased the ownership from his

partners and ran this successful company until 2006 when the loss of his eyesight forced him

into retirement.

Bill loved and provided for his wife Pat and his children and loved all of his grandchildren and

great grandchildren. He served and gave generously to God’s service throughout his life. He

was known for his beautiful, thoughtful prayers delivered in his strong booming voice. He took

the family on many wonderful vacations, coached his children’s athletic teams, and lived as an

outstanding example of a Christian man.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Ellen (Peteet) Lybrand, his parents G.

Preston and Ozie M. Lybrand and his grandson Joshua Preston Lybrand.

He is survived by his daughter Anna Jeanne Manchester and husband Gaylen, son Will Preston Lybrand and wife Laura, and son Greg Lybrand and wife Melissa, grandchildren Jeremy Manchester and wife

Heather, Amy Tischler and husband Justin, Justin William Manchester, Emily Manchester, Zach

Lybrand and wife Sasha, Nick Lybrand, and ArMei Lybrand, and great grandchildren

Logan Thomas Manchester, Haylie Ann Tischler, and Max William Manchester.

Services will be held on Friday, July 17, at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00

am followed immediately by internment.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Brown Trail School of

Preaching, or the Brown Trail Building Fund, or the American Diabetes Association.
