

JANE PHILLIPS STEWART went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Metho- dist Le Bonheur German-town Hospital at the age of 82. She was born March 11, 1929 in Memphis, TN. Survived by her husband of 59 years, Harry John Stewart; two sons, Mark Phillips Stewart and Rev. Ken Lee Stewart; four grandchildren, John Nicholas Stewart, William Andrew Stewart, LeeAnn Phillips Stewart, Kenzie Jane Stewart; one great-grandson, Shannon Nicholas Stewart. She was married on August 23, 1952. Devoted member of Collierville United Methodist Church since 1962 where she taught Sunday School classes, was often Liturgist, was the first lady Lay Minister, and was also active in New Horizons Club for many years. Jane was a bookkeeper with E.H. Crump for eight years. She returned to college at Memphis State University and obtaining her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and hours beyond. She then taught elementary education in the Memphis City Schools system at Rozelle, Cromwell, Magnolia, and White Station. Jane retired in 1987 and she and her husband, Harry, never slowed down. They rode motorcycles, sailed in the gulf, and in later years, loved traveling in their motor home - she always wanted to drive and usually did. She was an avid Bridge player. She had numerous hobbies including needle work, which she loved to give away to family and friends. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, at Collierville Funeral Home. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 5, at Collierville United Methodist Church On The Square. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Collierville United Methodist Church and Forever Young - WWII Veterans.
