

John Robert “Bobby” Hooker, 87, a retired farmer passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Hooker, three brothers: Jimmy Hooker, Norman “Buddy” Hooker, and Joseph “J.C.” Hooker and five sisters: Lula Coulter, Thelma Lemmons, Agnes Luster, Malissa Ann Greer, and Burnice Ligon. Bobby is survived by one sister, Evangeline Rutledge of Augusta, Georgia; four sons, John Forrester (Jan), Alex Hooker (Cathy), Robert Hooker (JoBeth), and Tracy Hooker. He also leaves behind Faye Greer Cox, sister-in-law, lovingly raised as a daughter. Bobby leaves behind 15 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. Bobby served as a Military Police Officer while in the Army, he worked as a drywall contractor for Hooker Drywall, and enjoyed life on the farm raising cattle and horses. Bobby was an avid hunter and horseman. He loved his wife and family with all his heart, as well as his church family and community friends. He spent many hours in the scriptures, and served the church faithfully led by his son, Dr. Robert Hooker, Pastor.
Visitation will be held at Collierville Funeral Home on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 2 pm – 4 pm. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 3812 Kirby Parkway, Memphis TN, on Monday, July 17 at 2 pm (additional visitation from 1-2 pm) with burial to follow at Memphis Memory Gardens.
