Malcolm Shapiro

Malcolm Leon Shapiro, 88, passed away September 24, 2015 in Memphis, TN. Malcolm is a native of Queens and Long Island, New York. He served in World War II in the Merchant Marines-Coast Guard and in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He and Elizabeth Batchelor married on July 9, 1950 and were married 63 years. Malcolm worked for Royal Globe Insurance in New York and then Suffolk County in New York. He retired to Memphis in 1989 and was a dedicated volunteer for Signature Healthcare at St Francis Hospital for 22 years. He was preceded in death by Elizabeth in 2013 and a sister Beatrice in 2000. He is survived by three sons, Allen Shapiro, Dale Shapiro (Gina) and Leon Shapiro (Charlene); grandchildren, Cecelia, Roy, Robert, Richard, Victoria, Jennifer, Philip, Ashley, Courtney and six great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends Monday, September 28 at Collierville Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be Tuesday, September 29 at 2:45 p.m. at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
