Michael Lee Johnson

Michael Lee Johnson, beloved husband and best friend of Carol (Cullen) of 46 years, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday December 21, 2017. He is survived by his wife Carol, brother Steve (Pam) of Decatur, IL, daughters Kristin Lincoln (daughters Caroline and Sarah Anne) of Woodstock, GA, Rebecca Hannaman (son Hayden) of Collierville, TN and Nicole Johnson (Gene Oliver and son Solomon) of Springfield, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents Beryl and Jackie Johnson.

Mike was born in McLeansboro, Il on September 20, 1947. He attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Illinois, Springfield. Mike had a successful 34 year career with Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) where he held various managerial positions including Vice-President of Southern Cotton 0il and President of Southern Cellulose. Throughout his career with ADM he enjoyed opportunities living in various cities across the United States. Mike retired to Collierville, TN on February 1, 2008,

Mike and Carol traveled the world extensively with their close friends (aka “Mess Mates”). He enjoyed having breakfast and lunch each week with his friends the “Romeos”. He loved fishing and spending time at his cabin on Pickwick Lake. Mike loved nature, was a voracious reader, and had a thirst for knowledge especially for history and science. He was known for his quick wit, intellect, and generous spirit.

Family will receive guests with a catered lunch on Wednesday December 27, 2017 from 12:00-2:00. A service for Mike will be held at 2:00 with graveside services following at Magnolia Cemetery.
