while holding hands with the ones he loved most. Terry was a proud father to his daughter, Chelsea
Hardwick (Collin) and son, Dylan Haynes. His greatest joy in life was being “Goopy” to his grandchildren,
Garner and Carver Hardwick, whom he loved more than life itself.
Born in Memphis, TN on October 28, 1956, Terry was the youngest (and perhaps the most trying) of five
siblings to the late Margaret Sunshine and Lewis Patrick Haynes. Terry was incredibly talented. There
was nothing he could not fix, heavy equipment he could not drive or a guitar he could not play – but
laundry and cell phones? He never quite figured those out. His greatest passion in life was music. Terry
wrote and produced numerous songs that Nashville never heard but his children will cherish forever.
Most recently, he worked in the dairy department at Kroger in Collierville where he befriended
everyone he met.
Our Goopy took fashion cues from no one. His signature look was a plain t-shirt by famed designer Fruit
of the Loom, bleach-stained jeans, a pair of shoes sold exclusively at Walmart, accessorized with his blue
‘Kroger’ ball cap. Terry had a deep love for the Lord, as well as Constant Comment tea, Marlboro Lights
and Coletta’s ravioli.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, Terry leaves behind two sisters, Jean Gibbons (George) of
Colorado Springs, CO and Carol Watters (Ben) of Marietta, GA and two brothers, Joe Haynes (Janet) of
Tunica, MS and Rickey Haynes (Karen) of Germantown, TN, and a host of nieces and nephews whom he
loved dearly. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Pat Haynes.
Family, friends, and strangers alike are invited to join us for Terry’s Celebration of Life at 3pm on Friday,
July 29th, 2022 at Highpoint Church, 1035 E Winchester Blvd, Collierville, TN 38017. In lieu of flowers and in true “Terry” form, please extend an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in his
memory.
The family would like to thank the caring team of nurses and doctors at Methodist Olive Branch
Hospital, who worked hard to care for Terry and prolonged his life.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.colliervillefuneral.com for the Haynes family.
