I am still trying to comprehend the loss of such a wonderful lady as Shirley. I met Shirley in December 1999 at FedEx and quickly realized how smart, caring, and genuine she was. We still, to this day, refer to Shirley as a "walking encyclopedia". Shirley always took the time to teach and coach others. I was fortunate enough to know her when we worked for FedEx Express and then again at FedEx Services. I will always remember how her eyes would light up when she shared things about her family, especially her Grandson.  My thoughts and prayers are with Shirley's family. Where there is great love, there is great loss and I cannot imagine anyone being  loved more than Shirley.

My ex- mother-in-law was such a good hearted women whom  was supportive no matter the circumstances.  Her kindness, warm heart and love will carry on through all her loved ones. God bless Shirley and her family!!!

I had the privilege to work with this wonderful human being. Shirley always went above and beyond to not only take care of the business but also the people she worked with. She had a very helpful nature. She worked extra hours so that the other team members didn't have to. She will be missed.

My thoughts go out to your family.  Although it has been a number of years since we have spoke I will always have fond memories of my cousin Shirley.  I am sorry for your loss.

Words cannot describe how much Shirley will be missed here on earth. She will live on in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Dana, Dawn, ,Larry, Zak, and all other family/friends. Shirley will live on in the hearts of those that were lucky enough to have known her. Her smile, her laugh and her funny disposition. I know that there are some fond recollections and stories being shared both here and where she now resides, pain-free and reunited with loved ones gone before.    

I also had the good fortune to meet Shirley on many occasions while she was visiting Dawn, Larry and Zak on her visits to Phoenix. It was always such a pleasure to see her and spend time with her. She had a smile that lit up the room and always had a great big hug for you. You will be missed, Shirley. 

I was lucky enough to meet Shirley a few years ago when she came to  visit Dawn and Larry for Zak's birthday and got to hear first hand about all the magic that went into baking Zak's special cake, which she took such pride in.  Her strong will is what i noticed first and her matter of fact approach to life.  We had lunch one day at Pita Jungle and my mom was there as well.  My mom and I left lunch and giggled about how much Dawn was like her mother and their mannerisms.   They were like 2 peas in a pod.    I was also lucky enough to play golf with Shirley and what a great day that was, I wish I would have been able to play more golf with her.  She was a wonderful woman, mother, mother-in -law, wife, grandma and friend.  You left your mark on this world and we will miss you Shirley.  My heart goes out to Dawn, Larry, Zak, Dana and all of the rest of her family and friends.  May you find peace and comfort in your rest after such a fierce battle.   Your were a warrior.  I will miss you, as will everyone else you touched.  God Bless you Shirley.  

I only knew Shirley for a short time but I found her to be a very loving, caring and generous  person with a very kind soul! May you Rest In Peace Shirley all my love 😍 Claude 

I worked with Shirley at FedEx in the late 1990s. She was a lovely lady to work with and to know. My condolences to Dana and all of Shirley’s loved ones. 

Dear Grandma Shirley,
This is your partner in crime Grandma Rose.
What a team we made as Zak’s Grandmothers.
We both played different parts in making sure he  had all the love he could handle from his Grams!
I want you to know that I watched all the wonderful blessings that you passed on to your grandson.   I think you started exposing Zak to Barnes and Noble when he was still in diapers.
You taught him about routine and traditions.
Your creativity was amazing.  Every year after year, you made Zak his football cakes on his birthday,  You attended every graduation starting with preschool all the way through high school.  When Zak would come to my house and bring his  blankets and pillows,, I would ask him where did you get that blanket and pillow and he would look up at me with his big proud eyes and he would say my Grandma Shirley made them for me.  As I say my goodbyes to you Grandma Shirley, I want you to know I am so proud to say Thank You so much for being the one who shared the greatest gift we both could ever ask for ZAK. We met Shirley in February when she and Dana came to Arizona so Shirley could receive treatment for her recently diagnosed cancer. Shirley' s daughter, Dawn, and son-in-law, Larry, are our dear friends that feel more like family. We live in Minnesota and were in Arizona for the winter months. Little did we know that we were not only meeting our friend's mom, but also getting the chance to see strength, courage, determination, and love personified. We witnessed Shirley deal with the hardest news, difficult treatments, and emotional ups and downs with grace and a sense of giving. We also were blessed to witness such love between mother and daughter. Shirley gave me a crocheted scarf that I will treasure. We were lucky to have played a round of golf with her.  She also gave us her friendship. She made a lasting impression in a very short period of time. We grieve her passing, send our prayers of comfort to her loved ones, and know that she lives on in Dawn. 

My grandma was one of the best people in my life. We built so many memories that I know I will never forget. Whether it was her trudging away to bake a special cake for me every birthday, taking me to the movies where we would always get popcorn with way too much butter, our many trips to the zoo and Out of Africa, the occasional trip to California where we would listen to an e-book along the way, lunch stops at portillos followed by a trip into Barnes and Noble, waking up to her either sewing a new creation or playing games on her iPad, among a variety of other memories I hold near and dear to my heart. She will always be remembered by my myself and others as a kind soul who loved her family and enjoyed life to the fullest. In these tough times it is reassuring to know she is in a better place and no longer suffering. I will love her forever and always.

I was new to Memphis National  about 4 years ago, when Shirley reached out to include me as a ladies group member.  She was a terrific "coach" on the course, always offering  encouragement and laughs.  I was honored to play a round with Shirley upon her return from  treatment in AZ.  Amazed by her strength and positive spirit - Shirley was a mentor to us all.  Such an elegant lady, Shirley will be greatly missed by everyone at Memphis National.  Godspeed my friend --

Mrs. Swanson was a sweet lady. Praying for you Mr. Swanson and family.

We’ve kept my mom’s cancer battle pretty private because that’s how she would’ve wanted it. It started at the end of Feb this year. Stage 4 lung cancer. Brought her to my work, Mayo Clinic. Turns out, she had a rare mix of aggressive and non-aggressive cancer. They gave her treatment there and the cancer was almost undetectable by July.  Her dr’s there were amazing and continue to be to this day. I spent the most amazing 4 months with her. We shopped, we laughed, we golfed. She tolerated treatment quite well. But a scan at the end of Sept showed over 45 brain tumors. She still wanted to fight and did brain radiation. Unfortunately, she suffered a major seizure Sun nite and never recovered. She passed away today, peacefully. After I hugged her and told her goodbye last nite. My mom was a warrior and kept fighting until the end. She taught me to be a strong, independent woman, and for that I am grateful. She taught me to be frugal but to also have adventures. A piece of my heart is gone…and can never be replaced. But I will go on, stronger and wiser because of her. 🙏💗

Shirley!  You were the best mother in law that I could have ever asked for.   You were the best mom and grandmother that zak and dawn could have ever had.   I will forever miss all of the great things you did for all of us and for how special you made every holiday and occasion you spent with us.   The memories that you provided were priceless.  You will forever be in my thoughts and will be in my heart. I love you!

Shirley was a wonderful person to work with, always a team player who did more than was required/expected of her. Am truly sorry to receive this terrible news. Thoughts and Prayers go to everyone in family..

Sad to read about Shirley's passing.  So enjoyed working with her at FedEx many years ago. Fly High my Northern Friend.

Shirley and I met when we were participants in the Westland Junior Miss program.  We became fast friends and EMU students together.  We lost touch, but met again years later, and it was like we had never been apart. She was a lovely woman and represented Westland with grace and dignity. I hope your memories will sustain you now and always.
