

Steve was born in Troy, New York and grew up nearby in Niskayuna. He excelled in school, particularly in mathematics and science. He was active in the National Honor Society as President, Chess Club, and Debate Team and was recognized by his high school for his good character and academic achievement.
After graduating from Niskayuna High School in 1971, Steve majored in Physics at Princeton University (class of 1975), then attended medical school at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He completed his medical internship at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he met Mary Linda Stotter (of Avon Lake, Ohio), his wife of almost 44 years. He then completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana and a fellowship in Invasive Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic. He was board-certified in both Cardiology and Internal Medicine. Steve and Mary Linda brought their family to Collierville, Tennessee in 2003.
Steve had a long career as a Cardiologist and Internist. He worked in private practice and managed health care. He also worked in government-sponsored positions, including the Indian Health Service at Fort Defiance on the Navajo Nation, where he was honored with an award from the Navajo Nation recognizing his care and compassion for patients. He was a dedicated physician and patients often expressed thanks for his attentive, thoughtful explanations and answers to their questions.
Steve was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. With his family he enjoyed chess, video games, exploring the outdoors, visiting out-of-town family, and vacationing in scenic areas of the U.S. He also enjoyed Star Trek, golf, reading, tennis, and online chess. He loved photography, especially taking nature photos. He shared his life-long love of learning with his sons and taught them math, chess, physics, history, and astronomy at home. He encouraged them and supported them financially as they attended college. More recently, he enjoyed being “Great” Uncle Steve to little ones Raiden, Evie, and Mila.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard P. Cuddy, MD; grandparents Clarence and Marie Buchanan; grandparents Cora and Richard Cuddy; stepfather Gary Spongberg; and brothers in law Frank Corradi and Robert Stotter. He is survived by his wife Mary Linda (Stotter) Cuddy, sons Kevin and Ryan Cuddy, mother Lucille (Buchanan) Spongberg, and sister Jane (Cuddy) Corradi.
Donations in Steve’s memory can be made to the American Heart Association or charity of one’s choice.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on April 26, 2025. Visitation 1:30, Service 2:00, with refreshments and additional visitation following the service. Location: Collierville Funeral Home, 3863 Bailey Station Road, Collierville 38017
A Memorial Mass will be held on May 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM at St. Lucy / St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Altamont, N.Y.
