Bette Jayne had written to my mother and when going through my mother's paperwork I found the letter. Bette Jayne wanted to contact my mother and had attached her phone number. But my mom did not respond. This was about 20 years later after my mother had passed away.

I became curious and called the number and guess who answered the phone. Come to find out Bette Jayne was my half cousin. We wrote and talked quite often about our heirtage, when I convinced her to come to California. We were doing genealogy and I explained that her dad's father was buried in Woodside, CA.

She came out and we visited and went to the cemetery, visited the Woodside Fire Department, where her father's dad had worked. Visited  the grammar school where my mom went to school.

We stayed at a B&B, had a great time. She was so excited to be here. I loved her sense of humor, and her laughter.  Bette Jayne went home we corresponded via e-mail a lot. 

Unfortunately, I knew how ill she was, but did not know she had passed away.

My sympathy and love goes to all her family and friends.

She fought a long battle but is in the gracious hands of God now, forever looking upon us all.

Bette Jayne I will miss you forever.

my favorite aunt.  I didn't see her very often as we lived so far apart, but she was very special.  she remembered my birthday last year with a butterfly ornament.  she remembered that I always loved butterflies.  she was very special and was loved very much.

To Tara and your family...
I didnt know your mom, but I followed her while she had been sick.  Her ups and downs and strides that she made.   When I read that she has passed, I knew all her hard work had paid off however God wanted her now.  Miss Bette was tired and God was ready for her.  We the living are the ones that suffer the pain and loss of someone.   Miss Bette is no longer in pain or suffering.   She is now up in heaven looking down on all of you and will be with you forever.  God Bless you all.   My sincerest condolences...

She was my Aunt, God Mother and my best friend. She was the glue that keep my mothers family together and gave us the words of wisdom when needed. She will be missed but I keep going knowing that she is with her brothers and sisters and all the other family members that have gone before her and that I will see her again. Love you Aunt Bettie

Aunt BetteJayne,  I will miss you.  When I think of you I think of your strength, determination in every thing you did, that you were feisy, hardheaded  (which runs in our family), a loving, caring person and always thinking of family and others.  You were a source of strength for your friends and family.  You worked hard to stay in contact with all the family members.  You had a way to made people feel special.  There is no one like you.  Even with all the medical issues you endured in your life you bounced back with a smile.  I will always remember your smile. Love you Janet

Bette was my Aunt but more than that she was my closest most trusted friend. She always made me feel special even if I really wasn't. I will miss her more than words can say.

Bette Jayne was was a childhood friend, one of my first.  We lived on the same court in Audubon Park. Her dad use to call me "half pint". One  of the question she asked me after we reconnected, 5 years ago, was how tall I was now? Well I'm just a few inches taller than her. 
I will miss her posting on facebook.  She would brighten my days at times.
