Born to Cora Egan (nee Linsley) and John Egan in Philadelphia, PA on December 1, 1943, Ellen was a longtime resident of Collingswood, NJ. She graduated from Saint Mary’s All-Girls Academy in Haddonfield.
She was a devoted worker at the Christian Day Nursery School in Collingswood for nearly 25 years and became a local celebrity for her work there. It was impossible for her to go anywhere without being recognized by a former student or parent.
She met her caring and dutiful husband Albert at a young age; her childhood home was on his paperboy route. They married on May 2,1964 and were married for 58 years before he passed in 2022.
Ellen was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Albert and her marvelous sister Pamela. It is a comfort to know they are reunited in Heaven.
Ellen is survived by her four wonderful children; Marybeth, Christine (Kim), Matthew (Elizabeth), and Ellen (Jim), as well as eleven grandchildren: Patrick, Kayleigh, Madelyn, Delaney, Daniel, Joshua, Cecelia, Samantha, Matthew Jr., Luke, and Addisyn, and one great-grandchild, Amelia.
Ellen was an animal lover. She had an absurdly large collection of animal memorabilia in her home (especially wolves). Over the years, she was never seen without a dog companion. She loved art, history, and archaeology and could often be found watching the Hallmark Channel, History Channel, or Discovery Channel on her enormous TV.
She loved a beach trip or a trip to Cabela’s with her husband. Whenever Al took her fishing, she was by his side with a floppy sun hat and sunglasses.
Ellen enjoyed local sports teams, especially the Eagles and the Phillies. Ellen was always up-to-date on current events. She never went to bed without saying the Hail Mary.
Her grandchildren called her ‘Nanny’ or ‘Nano’. She took every opportunity to celebrate her family and always acknowledged their accomplishments. Compassionate and sharp-witted, Ellen was an excellent conversationalist, a source of knowledge, and a listening ear.
Ellen will be adoringly remembered and intensely missed by her family, friends, and former students.
Visitation for family and friend will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 300 Kings Highway, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035 . A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2398 West Route 70, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.
