Joanne was educated in the Haddon Heights school district until she graduated from Haddon Heights High School in 1965. After high school, Joanne worked at a variety of jobs that included DeLuca’s Florist, Infocomp as a key puncher, Albert E. Price in the billing department and many years at Strawbridge and Clothier which then was bought by Macy’s, from which she retired in 2009.
Joanne's major passion was entertaining for family and friends. Her and Walt have the most colorful and funny stories of all the parties and vacations taken through the years. She loved having the gang over for almost any reason out there, holidays, birthdays or for Walt's latest catch of the day.
Most of what brought her joy was spending time with her large family of siblings, spouses and all the beautiful nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. And we all felt the abundance of love she had for each of us.
Joanne met her husband, Walt McDermott of 50 years in the year of 6th grade while hanging out with her new friends in Barrington, N.J. She had recently moved with her parents from their first home in Collingswood, N.J. and quickly found lifelong friendships that included Walt. We recently all gathered to celebrate this loving enduring relationship they had together.
Joanne is survived by brothers Thomas Samartino, Roger Samartino, and Gary Samartino and sister Loretta Samartino and a host of other relatives and friends.
