

Alfred Joseph Fiertner Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the age of 73. After several months of declining health related to his long battle with multiple sclerosis, Alfred died peacefully with his beloved son Chris, daughter-in-law Smriti and brother Tom by his side.
Alfred was born in New York City on July 3, 1948, to father Alfred Joseph Fiertner Sr. and mother Sara Carol Wallace-Fiertner. Alfred was the oldest of two sons, his younger brother Tom Fiertner still resides in their family home in New Jersey, to which Alfred traveled as frequently as possible.
Alfred had a successful Air Force career, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His early service as a Civil Engineer allowed him to travel the world. His later service as a Chief Engineer for the Air Force Reserve led to continued professional accolades. After retiring from active duty, Alfred had a successful Civil Service career in Washington D.C. and San Antonio, Texas.
As accomplished as Alfred was in his professional life, he always said his family was his greatest achievement. He cherished his children and grandchildren and selflessly placed their happiness before anything else.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, and also the mother of his children, ex-wife Yvette Nadeau, with whom he had a happy and amicable relationship until her passing in 2015.
He is survived by his brother Tom Fiertner, sister-in-law Diane Fiertner and nephew David Fiertner; son Christopher Fiertner and daughter-in-law Smriti Fiertner; daughter Jennafer Fiertner-Holm and son-in-law Eric Holm; grandchildren Bodhi Fiertner, Raymond Maynard, John Maynard and Cora Holm; step daughter Teresa Stackhouse; and adoptive daughter Kathryn Morningstar Carver.
A ceremony to remember Alfred and celebrate his life is planned for Tuesday, November 02, 2021, beginning 10 am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. A burial with full military honors will follow at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, followed by a memorial reception at Holy Cross. All are invited to attend.
