Anita Jane Damon, 92, of Colorado Springs passed peacefully, surrounded by family on June 22, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born on May 2, 1932 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to parents Richard and Gertrude Boese. She enjoyed living above the family bakery and being part of the business at a young age with siblings Alfred, Joanne, Donald and James.
She married Thomas (Tom), the love of her life, in April 1952. Together they built a family while in the United States Air Force stationed in Morocco, Germany and multiple U.S. states. Through the years they took the family on many adventures across the world. In 1974, they settled in Colorado Springs where they eventually retired.
Anita’s lifelong passion was music as she would sing in choirs, accompany on the piano, and eventually learn to play at least a dozen instruments. The high school band director would often ask her to pick up a new instrument that nobody else knew. She took college level music courses and piano lessons for most of her life and passed her knowledge on to many children over the years. She and her long time friend, Nancy Singleton, played together for over 40 years and performed duets for the American Music Society of which she was a continual member. She was also a long time member and past president of the Pikes Peak Music Teachers Association.
As a devoted Catholic she attended St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and shared her faith with her family and those around her. She was the organist at every parish she attended throughout her life until she retired at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Colorado Springs after playing there for many years.
Her passing is preceded by husband Thomas DeLoyd Damon, son Richard Gerard Damon, father Richard Paul Boese, mother Gertrude Boese, brothers Alfred Richard Boese, Donald Frederick Boese and James John Boese. She is survived by sister Joanne Margaret Nesbitt, sons Thomas Damon, Timothy Damon, daughters Theresa Damon, Tammy Saxton, Christina (J Craig) Damon, grandsons James (Stephanie) Saxton, Jacob Saxton, Maxwell (Jenna) Damon, great grandchildren Tyler, Jayden and Liana Saxton.
The family extends a special thank you to the amazing staff of Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care in Colorado Springs for their loving care and support during her final months.
