Ann M. Tubesing
Ann M. Tubesing, 97, of Colorado Springs, passed away on June 30, 2021. Ann was born on November 11, 1923, in St Joseph, Missouri. and was raised in Bartley, Nebraska.
Ann was an athletically capable “tomboy” growing up, and in high school, she played catcher for the traveling women’s softball team. After high school, she taught school and worked in Bartley and McCook for two years, until her adventuresome nature led her to purchase a train ticket for a move from Nebraska to Denver, Colorado. While on the train, she met her future husband, Henry A. Tubesing, and traveled to San Francisco, California with him. They were married in September, 1944. While in San Francisco, she worked as a bookkeeper for H. Liebes, an exclusive women’s department store. In 1951, Ann’s only child, a daughter, Lois Ann, was born. In 1961, the family moved from San Francisco, to Edmonds, Washington, north of Seattle, then, in 1966, to Fife, Washington, north of Tacoma, where Ann became a bookkeeper for Stowell’s Pharmacy at Doctor’s Hospital. In 1969, she divorced Henry and moved to an apartment on 6th Avenue in Tacoma with Lois, where she lived for 42 years. While living in that location, Ann also worked as a Medical Assistant and Receptionist for Dr. Dodge, an ophthalmologist, and later she worked in accounts receivable for Tacoma General Hospital. During that period of her life, her athletic abilities emerged once again and she became a very accomplished golfer, winning several tournaments and even scoring a hole in one. She also developed a close relationship with a male friend who was a private pilot, and they flew to locations in Washington and Oregon where they would golf together. She loved flying as much as her golfing.
Ann suffered her first stroke in 2006 and moved to assisted living at Frank Toby Jones in Tacoma. She remained there until she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in July 2008, to be close to her daughter. She remained there until her passing on June 30, 2021.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Lois Middlemiss and son-in-law, Ivan; two grandchildren, Michelle Root and Zach Gray and two great grandchildren, Jake and Jamie Root.
She will be missed.
