Where do I begin? I guess I can start by saying that my childhood would not be the same if I didn't grow up next to Tony. He was the leader of our "bike gang" and it feels like yesterday where all the Pembroke/Ozark kids would ride our bikes at dusk to McCarthy park; Tony specifically on an old school Schwinn. We were "the big green monster and his posse." We had no purpose. We didn’t cause trouble. We didn’t really do anything except ride through the neighborhood like typical preteens on a summer night. 

Trampoline nights. Ghost in the graveyard. Adam's graveyard. Murder mystery. Forcing our parents to have bonfires. WWF (most notably, the Undertaker). I'm pretty confident the first time I played Super Nintendo was in his room when I was maybe 8 years old and first discovered Yoshi. Also I don’t think I would appreciate the Beatles as much as I do now if it wasn’t for him. 

I cherish these moments and will forever reminisce about the "good ol days" and hope that my kids can have the same bond that we all had growing up. I’ll never forget you Tony P.

Did we choose Carson's or did Carson's choose us?

Ricky already spoke beautifully on the soul and character of this literary behemoth, this titan of prose. From the philosophical jams in the backhouse, to bonfires aplenty, this man stood alone in a grand Walden- a pillar upon which the world rested.

Worlds apart, forever separated. A dream fulfilled, a dream realized. Biting commentary, languid words of support and sharp, cutting wit. In the world before technology rent its pixelating ineptitudes, the pen and paper, the musical note, the music stand, a tightly tuned head all rang out into the darkness with greater ferocity than the bits and bites we now send.

A terrifying gaze that commanded the world in its splendor and  wonderfulness - a Moria and a reggae band with a beguiling manner and inviting hand.  I wish to thank this grand force, this towering monolith of wisdom, for the tidbits and overwhelming kindness shown to a young grasshopper starting out.

Tony. Pomonis. A grand adventurer of the soul. Filled with the wonder and awe of a thousand ages. While we may never attain your grace and insight, I pray we might follow your light, forevermore.

April 2nd, 2021, Good Friday
In Jan. '16, I received a letter addressed to Neal Cassady; return address "The Road." "Tony," I said with a chuckle. My friend Tony Pomonis moved out to CO a few months before. I knew what the letter would say: Tony had found a place where the pulse of art, music, literature, etc. mixed with the land itself to beat healthy and strong; an intersection of the things he was passionate about-Great Music, Literature, Nature-The stuff of Life. So sometime in Jan. of '16, my good friend Tony Pomonis sent me a sheet of paper containing 17 lines of verse that, although  melancholic, let me know that life in CO was good. He signed it Sal Paradiso. I had not read On The Road (still haven't), because I had read The Dharma Bums and did not much care for it. So when Tony accredited his poem to Sal Paradiso,  I assumed he was quoting Kerouac. I have been unable to attribute Tony's hand written words to any published work, however. I can't confirm it, but I believe that the following work, "BROOKS WAS HERE" (The Shawshank Redemption reference was also lost on me) is a Tony Pomonis original:
Can you remember when we used to write letters /hunched over desks/in dim lamplight /doting on the word? /Maybe you don't -/and neither do I./But I like to think of a man who might. /And I like to think him now/sitting there/still writing that letter/or awaiting its return/from some lover out of reach /Gentle cursive dips/ink stained thumbs. /Something yet for him to smell and touch in/our grand new lonely world/that got itself in a big damn hurry.

The irony here is that I sit doting over every word I type through my smartphone in the hustle and bustle of an airport terminal. In Jan. '16, though, my good friend Tony Pomonis sent me a letter. And I'm glad he did.
 I'll Miss You, Brother. See You down The Road.

Tony was a great man and an even better friend. There are countless ways he helped me and I wouldn't be who I am without him in my life.  He was the guy that would stop you mid-conversation to let you know he's sorry that you're feeling down, which happened on more than one occasion.  I talked to him about anything, everything and nothing all at the same time.  I'll always remember the time I told him I had two tickets to the auto show and I really don't want to go, but I have nothing else to do.  He said "So do I and I don't want to go either", and so we went.  We had an amazing time just making fun of everything and hanging out.  Eventually, we found a photo booth and hopped right in. He kept that photo strip as a bookmark for a while and even several years later, he would send a picture of it to me to let me know he still had it.  We could always make a great time out of anything. 

I will miss you.

Tony was one of the best back in IL. He was more than a friend and always there for late night chicken nugget runs any day. When we came to CO it just got better. He showed me all the best places. Always wanted to help. Was there in an instant. I could talk to him about almost anything. 
My most cherished moments will always be in the late nights as the party would wind down and he would sit with me and we would reflect on the day, the week, our lives, and everything we looked forward to. 

Never forget all those nights sitting outside on our patios, the Karczewski and Pomonis kids running around the yard. So many memories, camping, water parks, Halloween parties and Six Flags Great America.  We will always remember his unforgettable smile and he will always be in our hearts.

I remember when Tony came to work on our team almost 10 years ago! We were so excited because he was so good at so many things....and he was young and we were not! LOL Every time we ran into a computer issue we would say, call Tony...he never complained (to our faces anyway) He was such a hard working fun loving dude and always had something interesting to talk about! Tony will be missed by many but never forgotten! Thank you God for your son.... I know he made you proud. I am
Honored to have known him and blessed to have had him be a part of my tribe!

Favorite memories: 

-Our vinyl and taquitos nights. That’s exactly what it sounds like! He’d bring over records and taquitos and we’d just listen to what we were loving! 
-All the concerts we went to! I can’t even count how many we went to with Tony.  A lot of times, I would have an extra ticket through work or something, ask him day of if he wanted to go, and he was always down! 
-Halloween parties! 
-Our daily chats/messages about anything! TV shows, music, whatever happened during the day, you name it! 

Honestly, we had fun doing whatever we were doing! I will miss having him in my life! Our bond over music will live on forever in so many songs and bands we have memories attached to and I’m thankful for that! 

Forever in my heart. Sending healing prayers to all of your family and friends. I will always think of you and cherish your contagious personality and selflessness <3

Loved having Tony around. James and I were the first people he came to know when he moved here. He came over to our apartment all the time and helped us move Into  our very first home. He celebrated his birthday with us often, and watched our baby Iguana when we were away. We had the best Wednesday Afternoon Pod Squad sessions, never published. And I will never forget how amazing of a tour guide you are to show us your hometown and your family's generosity in finding accommodations and time for us. I love your little Italian resturaunt near your home it was a lovely dinner. We are ever greatful for these experiences. And thank you for picking James up for work every morning when I couldn't be there to take him. We went to Buffalo wild wings to watch the World Series together and I am so glad we got to share such an amazing moment with you when you couldn't be home. I'm sure a million people would have given anything to share that with you, but you chose us. So special. You told James and I once that you loved coming over because we both helped you get away from the bad things and were good influences. And we were so happy to help you along your journey to becoming the best person you could ever be. Though, in my opinion, you already were. Thank you to you and your family for always showing kindness, compassion and love. And thank you for sharing a Beatles song to dance to with me at James and I's wedding. ❤
