Betty Dornick of Colorado Springs passed away peacefully at her home on October 16 surrounded by her loving children. With grace, strength and perseverance, she battled a mixture of health issues but continually overcame them, enjoying life to the wonderful age of 90.
Betty was the cherished wife of Ray Dornick, whom she was devoted to for 64 years. Betty and Ray married in 1952 in Glenwood Springs CO while Ray was serving in the US Navy. They lived in San Diego for a short period of time but it always remained one of her favorite places. After being discharged, they lived in Leadville CO before moving permanently to Colorado Springs. Betty worked for Hewlett Packard Company for 25 years, and once retired, new adventures began.
Betty and Ray were known for jumping in their car at the drop of a hat to take a road trip…anywhere. They enjoyed countless adventures together, camping with friends and family, always coming home with "a story to tell". They both loved the outdoors, wildlife, and anything in nature. Betty was known for her incredible memory, eagle-eye vision, and sarcastic wit. She could make a 4-course meal in one pan and “mom’s fried chicken” was always a Sunday treat. She would proudly tell people she was a “farm-girl” and knew the true meaning of hard work. When Ray’s health started to decline, Betty was his loving and devoted 24-hour caretaker.
Betty was an inspiration to her children and abundant grandchildren. It will be impossible to remember her life without remembering her willingness to help others, her love for adventure, and her tough resilience. She was a woman of dedication, old-school manners, and unique stubbornness which will be profoundly missed. Above all, her life was marked by her extraordinary love of family.
Betty was preceded in death by Ray, her husband of 64 years, mother Ruby and father Robert, brother Claude, and sisters Carol and Beverly. She is survived by her children Sharon, Janet, Sue (Dave), and Mike (Shelly), along with 57 grandchildren/great-grandchildren/great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for Friday, October 25th at 11:00 am at Memorial Gardens in Colorado Springs, CO, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
