Bill was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on September 21, 1931 to Edward and Sally Woods. He grew up working hard starting at a young age selling newspapers and shining shoes at Fort Carson to help put food on the table for his family. Bill joined the Air Force in his late teens and then went to work in the roofing business. By the age of 30 he went into business for himself, starting Bill Woods Roofing Company. Shortly after starting the business he met Sharon Blake and a few years later they were married. Bill built up a great reputation for running a successful business, but was better known for his honesty and integrity. He ran the company for 32 years before deciding to hang up his roofing hammer and enjoy life.
Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends. He loved to golf, traveled often, and was known for his ornery sense of humor – he loved a good laugh. Las Vegas was one of his favorite destinations to try his luck in the slot tournaments and more often than not came home with more money in his pocket than he went with. A favorite memory is Bill and Sharon going to Pam’s house for Christmas Eve dinner and driving around the area looking at Christmas lights and listening to Christmas music.
As Bill was advancing in age, he wasn’t able to travel as much, but was able to see his oldest grandchild, Brayden, graduate from TCU in 2021. He was so proud of his grandkids and was hoping to make it to Kendyl’s graduation from Arizona State and Kate’s graduation from high school in 2023.
For the last several years, one of the highlights of Bill’s week was meeting a great group of friends for coffee at McDonald’s – Marie and Don; Mitch; Shirley and Emery; Gene and Suk.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon; sister, Yvonne Ragsdale; sister Donna Bowers; daughter Pam (Bruce); and three grandchildren, Brayden, Kendyl and Kate Lambrecht.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Eddie Woods; sister, Marcine Dewitt; sister, Dorothy Porter; sister, Sally Ackers.
We are all celebrating Bill’s life. As Bill loved bright colors and preferred to dress in a golf shirt and khaki’s, please come wearing something bright and colorful.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Swan-Law.com for the Woods family.
