She was born on June 17, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to Kenneth Lee Ramsey and Lois Barbour Ramsey. She attended George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia, where she met her future husband, Robert T. Savage. After graduating from High School, she attended Stratford College in Danville, Va. for a brief time before getting married and moving out of state. Because of her experience there, she instilled the desirability of a college education in her children as they grew up.
The high school sweethearts married in 1952 and soon began a life of travel as an Air Force family. Their three children were born while they were stationed at Tyndall Air Force base in Panama City, Florida. From there, they moved to Georgia, Texas, and Germany, where they lived in the small village of Betingen, near Bitburg. Upon returning from Germany, the family moved to bases in Texas, California, and Plattsburgh, New York. Their final duty station was in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
During each of these assignments, Carol kept the family organized and took on all the responsibilities of a military wife. She was known for her great southern hospitality and she always had a smile for friends and family.
After her husband's retirement, the couple moved to Colorado Springs in 1998, where they set up a cozy home. For many years, Carol had one of the most beautiful flower gardens around. In February, they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T Savage, who passed away on December 2. She is survived by her three children Katharine Jensen and Donald Savage (Cathleen), both of Colorado Springs, and Susan Weyrauch (Keith) of Hollister, California, and Grandson Alec Weyrauch of California.
She will be cremated and interred with her husband in the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado, in the spring.
The family requests that no flowers be sent.
