Cecilia Jane Bernadette Weir Pederson, aged 74 years, 1 month, and 19 days, lately of Melbourne, Florida, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 21, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth; son, Eric Pederson, and wife, Stacey Harada; son, Adam, and wife, Amy; and granddaughters, Phoebe and Kahlan (Kat) Pederson; brother and sister-in-law, (Kenneth) Mark and Kathleen Weir; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Glen Schwanebeck; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jill Pederson; nieces, Julie, Holly, Laura, Kelly, Jennifer, Jodie, and Julie; and nephews, Chris, Cole, Josh, and Clay. She has 15 great-nephews and great-nieces.
Cecilia was born May 2, 1951 to Elbert and Laura Weir in Decatur, Alabama. They moved to Hialeah, Florida when she was two years old and spent her childhood at 11131 NW 62 Ct. She attended and was a cheerleader at Immaculate Conception Catholic School. She spent her High School years at Hialeah High and graduated with the Class of 1969. She was active in Tri-M, Anchor, and Chorus, and was briefly a model. She met Ken Pederson at a Modern Music Masters function at the beginning of her sophomore year. They dated through high school and married shortly after her graduation.
Cecilia and Ken eloped to Camden, South Carolina, where they married on August 30, 1969. She was 18 and Ken was 20. They lived in Hialeah for their first year, then moved to Miami. They became members of the Hialeah Church of Christ. Cecilia worked as a secretary at Alcoa Corporation. In 1971 she suffered a miscarriage, but later gave birth to Eric on May 3, 1972.
Shortly after the birth of Eric, they moved to Memphis and bought their first home. After 18 months they moved back to Miami, buying a house in Opa Locka. They lived there for ten years, 1973 thru 1982. During that time, Adam was born on August 19, 1974. The family was once again very active at the Hialeah Church of Christ, where Ken and Cecilia taught Sunday School classes and worked with the Teens. They were one of seven families that left Hialeah and founded the Palm Lakes Church of Christ. The boys attended Opa Locka Elementary. Cecilia volunteered there so much that many people thought she worked there. Ken and Cecilia also opened an Art Gallery, but it was not successful.
In November of 1982 the family moved to Denver, Colorado. Cecilia began volunteering again, this time for Douglas County Schools. Eventually they convinced her to agree to be hired so she could get paid for all the work she was doing at the schools. She was an Assistant, a Secretary, a Librarian Assistant, a Librarian, and finally a Personal Assistant to the Principal. She also taught Sunday School at the Englewood Church of Christ and headed the Primary Education Department. All this time, she was sewing. She made clothes for herself and her family, including suits. She also made Flower Girl dresses, Bridesmaid dresses, Prom dresses, and Wedding Gowns. During this period she visited Hawaii for the first time, became a PADI certified scuba diver, and went on her first of many cruises. It was also while in Denver that she became a Grandma, with the births of Phoebe in 2008 and Kahlan in 2010.
In 2013 they moved from Denver to Melbourne, Florida, following shortly after Adam moved his family there – including the grandkids. They began attending the Rockledge Church of Christ, where Cecilia was soon teaching Sunday School and again headed the Primary Education Department. She joined TGIF, a knitting and crocheting group, and the Seaside Piecemakers Quilting Guild. She joined an existing quilting group at church called Sewing Sisters, and expanded it so that there are now 7 permanent sewing stations and a long arm quilting machine. They create over 50 quilts every year for various charities. In all these activities, her happiest work was being a dedicated Grandma to Phoebe and Kahlan.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 26th at 10:00 AM at Rockledge Church of Christ at 2390 S Fiske Blvd in Rockledge, FL.
