It is with both sorrow and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Dr. Charles Warren Asbell, who was welcomed home by his Savior on July 30, 2025 at the age of ninety. Chuck lived each day as a humble servant of Christ with kindness, integrity, and strength. He believed in the strength of prayer, the importance of the Word of God, and the beauty of God’s grace.
Born to Ferriss & Clara Asbell on November 1st, 1934, in Riverside, California, Chuck was a man whose life was a reflection of his unwavering faith in God and deep dedication to his family. He was a faithful husband to Marilyn A. (Ewers) Asbell, sharing a beautiful 70-year marriage rooted in love and devotion. Together they raised three daughters who brought him immeasurable joy: Caryn E. Heil (married to Anton), Tracie L. Thomas (married to Eric), and Kimberly A. Savage. His memory and legacy live on through Marilyn, his children, his six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, each of whom know they were deeply loved.
Chuck received a Bachelor of Science in 1957 from Oregon State University, and his Ph.D. in Botany in 1976 from the University of California, Riverside. He worked as a Professor of Plant & Soil Science for many years at UC Riverside and Cal Poly Pomona, publishing numerous papers in academic journals throughout that time. He retired in 1991, eventually relocating to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to be nearer to his family.
A lifelong scholar of the Bible, Chuck shared his love of the Bible with high school and college-aged students during weekly Bible studies at his home. He began publishing theological articles and booklets with Scripture Research Inc. in 1964 and continued doing so over the next 58 years. He spent decades exploring and analyzing the Bible and passing on his thoughts and conclusions to anyone willing to read or listen. Chuck retired as President of Scripture Research in 2006. He was a prolific writer, and his archived words live on and can be read at ScriptureResearch.org.
Second only to his faith, Chuck was most proud of his family. He loved them fiercely and loudly, championing them at every opportunity. He had a strong work ethic and a servant’s heart, always willing to help his family and friends in whatever ways he could and cracking jokes along the way. Chuck extended love and grace and too many second chances to count. He wore his heart on his sleeve and tears in his eyes, and his loved ones never doubted their standing in his heart.
Though we mourn his passing, we rejoice in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him, and embraced by the Savior he so faithfully served. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Bonaventure Senior Living (9112 Grand Cordera Pkwy, Colorado Springs, CO 80924).
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
