Claudia Hart Johnson was born May 16th 1949 in Chicago IL. Her parents were David and Susan Deland. Her two younger brothers are Philip and David. Their father David moved the family to Berkeley Heights New Jersey where they would build their forever home.
As a child, Claudia enjoyed camping in Maine with her family and going to the beach. One of Claudia’s favorite memories, she spoke about often, was riding horses at a local stable. She also enjoyed spending time with her siblings, aunts, uncle, and cousins. Family was very important to Claudia.
Unfortunately, when Claudia was 13, her mother Susan passed away. This had a huge impact on her. She would often mention how she felt the need to fill in as a mother figure for her two younger brothers.
Claudia’s mother and father were faithful followers and members of the Christian Science community. Through their family’s relationship with fellow church members, Claudia would begin babysitting for Vivian Mobus and her four children, Kathy, Frank, Eileen, and Richard (aka Rippy). Claudia took great pride in the fact that she was the driving force behind getting her dad and Vivian to begin a relationship. On March 12, 1966, David and Vivian would marry. Vivian was an incredible soul and this new family of nine meant everything to Claudia.
In 1967 Claudia would move from New Jersey to Sterling, Colorado to attend Northeastern Junior College to acquire her associates degree. This is where she would meet her future husband, Louie Johnson. After completing her 2 years at Sterling she attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley to obtain her bachelor’s in child development.
On October 25th , 1975, Claudia and Louie would join in marriage. Their ceremony was held in Evergreen, Colorado. While living in Thornton, Colorado, she gave birth to their first son Matthew Jeremiah Johnson on March 5th , 1977. In 1978 Louie accepted a teaching job in Lamar Colorado at the community college. After moving to Lamar Claudia gave birth to their second son, Luke James Johnson on April 19 , 1979. Having her two children, Claudia started an at home daycare.
Claudia then set out to utilize her degree in child development. She accepted a position at SEBOCES (Southeastern Board of Cooperative Educational Service) where she taught special needs children. Her time with these children inspired her to continue her education and obtain her master’s degree at Colorado State University in Colorado Springs. Once completed she accepted a position at Lamar High School.
With 22 years in Lamar, Claudia and Louie made the decision to move to Woodland Park, Colorado. She accepted a position at Cripple Creek High School as the program director while also instructing. After nearly 30 years in education Claudia decided to retire.
In retirement Claudia focused full-time to Christian Science and spending time with her two boys and her grandchildren.
On February 16, 2022 Claudia Hart Deland Johnson left this earth and is no doubt in eternal Heaven.
