David Wayne Fuchs

Dave was born on December 29, 1938 in Kiowa, Colorado to Theodore “Dude” Fuchs and Helen (Haycook) Fuchs. He grew up on a farm north of Calhan with his sisters Theo, Rita and brother Irv, learning at a young age the value of hardwork. His family survived hardship when their home burned down when Dave was 9 years old.

He was known for his love of baseball and acquired exceptional skills playing the game with daily practice together with his cousin Bill Fuchs. He graduated from Calhan School in 1956, where his first grandson Donovan Mitchell now serves as Superintendent.

On March 28, 1959 he married Carol Eis from Ellicott, eloping to Albuquerque, NM. This past March they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Moving back to Colorado, they raised 3 children, Lacy, Lorie and Lee Fuchs, in the Calhan area.

Following graduation he was eager to enter the work-force trying his hand at different jobs. Dave worked as a Survey Engineer for the Colorado State Highway Department for 20 years. He and Carol also established and owned several businesses including professional tree moving, real estate rentals, driving his own school bus for the Calhan School District, Dave Fuchs Trucking, over-the-road semi truck driver, and road grader operator. He retired at the remarkable age of 82.

Dave supported his family's love of snowmobiling, boating, camping and fishing through side jobs painting cars.

With the help of his wife and later his children, he constructed all four houses where he and Carol made their home; the first in 1962, and the last in 1997 where they still reside. Dave accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized in 2006.

He is survived by his loving wife Carol, his children, Lacy (Shauna) Fuchs, Lorie (Clint) Mitchell, Lee (Melanie ) Fuchs, grandchildren Donovan (Jamie) Mitchell, Joe (Ashlee) Mitchell, Michael (Chloe) Mitchell, Garrett Fuchs (Maggie), Brittany (Dakota) Abbott, Caleb Fuchs (fiancee Reese), and Dalton Fuchs: great- grandchildren Jordan, Sadie Reagan, Paisley Mitchell, Macy Jo Mitchell due in June, brothers Jerry (Joan) Green, Irv (Nina) Fuchs, sister Rita Lenore: sister-in-law Linda Eis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Dude & Helen Fuchs, and sister Theo Chambers.

Services will be held at Living Word Community Church (532 Colorado Ave, Calhan, CO 80808) on Saturday, May 17th. The service will begin at 10:00 AM & interment will immediately follow the service at the Calhan Cemetery.
