Dave was Born on April 13, 1934 to Henry and Helen Meurer in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was the second youngest of seven children and the last living sibling of his generation. Dave’s wife, Joyce Ann Foster, also preceded him in death in 2009 after 54 years of marriage.
He is Survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Kay Matthews (husband David) and Karla Sue Johnson (husband Edwin), and preceded in death by son Richard Dwight Meurer in 2003. Dave and Joyce had three children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Dave and his wife Joyce were cofounders of the Colorado Head Injury Foundation (now Colorado Brain Injury Alliance) and the annual “Walk Through the Clouds” (now Pikes Peak Challenge) awareness and fund raising event. Dave had a lifelong devotion to his Christian Faith seen through his kind, gentle and generous spirit and he expressed this through his love of family, community, and fellowship, including lay ministry. He had a lifelong passion for poetry, photography, watercolors, and was an accomplished musician: playing French Horn briefly in a fledgling Colorado Springs Symphony. His unique humor, his special family leadership and his willingness to always give of himself will be missed by many more than just his family.
Dave would tell us from Proverbs 3:5-6 that if we “trust in the Lord with all our heart, lean not to our own understanding and in all our ways acknowledge Him, He will direct our paths.”
