David E. Peck was a brilliant man. He was born August 7th, 1957, in Ann Arbor, MI. He was always exploring and learning. As the son of a Vietnam war officer and stay-at-home mom, he spent his childhood on Air Force bases in Michigan, California, and Georgia. At 16, a National Merit Scholar, he was accepted and matriculated into the University of Southern California. While there, he studied everything from philosophy and religion to physics, graduating in 1980 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He met his first wife, Jane, at USC and married her on April 5, 1980. Dave enjoyed skiing and sailing, and went motorcycling in the hills of Topanga Canyon and avidly traveled the world. While living in California, Dave won several awards for racing sailboats, a hobby which he reminisced fondly over after transferring with Digital Equipment Corporation to Colorado Springs in 1985. After 8 years as DINK’s (Double Income, No Kids), Bailey, his daughter, the twinkle in his eye, was born. Three years later, his red-headed son Kilian was born. Both follow in their father’s footsteps with brains and a quick wit.
His 35-year career as a computer engineer took him through several Tech companies in the Springs after Digital closed their doors, including MCI, Compac, and ended as a senior engineer at Hewlett-Packard. As a father, he brought an engineer’s perspective to every science project, which meant that each took twice the time, were twice as ugly, but always won. In 1998, he met his soul mate Andi, who for some reason understood his humor (or maybe he understood hers). Together, they spread humor, laughter, love, and lightness. They traveled the country by train, finding favorite new places and making memories. Dave loved spicy food, dogs, music, and technology. But more than anything, Dave loved Andi. She was his rock, supporting him in sickness and in health. The world has lost a brilliant man, a beloved father and husband, and a thousand jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Andi, his children Bailey and Kilian, his parents George and Velma, his brother John and sister-in-law Gillian, his stepson Brian and daughter-in-law Heather, his grandson Evan, and countless friends.
It would be a shame to end this note of his passing without his two favorite jokes. The first, “Two peanuts walking down the boardwalk, and one was a salted!” The second many have heard but few have understood, “What is the difference between a duck? One of its feet is both the same.”
A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11th from 5-7 PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 12th, 2015, at 3PM, both at Swan-Law Funeral Directors - 501 N Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Dave’s final resting place will be in Flint, MI.
Arrangements under the direction of Swan-Law Funeral Directors, Colorado Springs, CO.
