Donald R. Scheinoha passed away peacefully with his husband at his side on Saturday, March 7, 2026 in Colorado Springs, CO. Don was born on December 11, 1946 to his parents Lucille and Leonard Scheinoha in Wausau, WI.
The family moved to Green Bay, WI in 1955 where both Don and his sister attended St. Agnes Catholic School. Don received his high school education at Premontre High School and went on to study and graduated from St. Norbert’s College in DePere, WI. He then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and graduated Cum Laude.
Don’s distinguished career as a mechanical engineer took him from LaCrosse, WI to St. Louis, MO to Two Rivers, WI and Mahtomedi, MN before Colorado Springs.
After 41 years together, Don married the love of his life Ryan Douglas at their home on March 22, 2019 surrounded by family, friends and neighbors. Don and Ryan considered their wedding day one of the happiest of their lives, and their love was an inspiration to everyone lucky enough to know them throughout their life together.
Don was an accomplished musician and traveled with the Norm Edlebeck Polka Band from Texas to Canada playing the trumpet and piano introducing polka music to all who wanted to hear. He also spent many hours relaxing at home playing his baby grand piano. Ryan cherished hearing Don play. Music was an important part of their love story and their final night together was spent re-watching the movie “Song Sung Blue” reminiscing about their early years together to the soundtrack of Neil Diamond.
Don cherished his connection to his family. Holidays were spent with his sister and family celebrating with beautifully decorated tables, delicious food and plenty of cocktails. Hours of conversation over meals were often capped off with a snowy walk while sipping steaming mugs of coffee amaretto. He was a beloved uncle to his sister’s children, adventuring together at the lake, on the ski slopes, or playing board games with a highly competitive spirit.
Everyone knew Don was “Mr. Fixit” if it didn’t work or was broken he would spend hours figuring out what he needed to make it “good as new” again. Don also enjoyed time doing jigsaw puzzles especially in the wintertime.
Survivors include Don’s husband, Ryan F. Douglas; his sister, Patti Briquelet, Wausau, WI; his nephew, Chris Briquelet, Wausau, WI, and his children, Abbie and Emilie; his niece, Holly Briquelet Miller and her husband, Kevin, Wausau, WI and their children Isaac, Noah and Zoe.
Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date this summer.
Don will be forever missed and remembered with love.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Habitat for Humanity.
