

Dorothy L. Burns-Peterson was born in Palco, KS on February 21, 1932, and died April 1, 2011 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was the second daughter of Harold Sleichter and Hyland Hock Sleichter. Although her family moved to Oregon and Missouri at different times, she grew up most of her life in the Pikes Peak area, attending Ellicott Elementary School and Colorado Springs High School.
She married Kenneth Burns in 1950 and had three daughters, Cathy (Warren) Miller of Colorado Springs, Melody Burns (deceased), and Candy (Steve) Furnish of Falcon, CO. She married Peter Peterson in 1978 and he survives. She also had four step-children, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was co-owner of Water Well Pump and Supply Co. from 1965 to 1975, and was a realtor with Walker Realty Co. for over twenty years, until her retirement in 2002.
She was active in Radiant and Grace Brethren Churches, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and leading women’s ministries. She volunteered for years at the Pioneer Museum in the gift shop, was a member of Pikes Peak Cowbelles and Fountain Valley Women’s Association. Hobbies included ceramics, stained glass, and painting watercolors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at Memorial Gardens Chapel 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 5. A viewing will be from 4-6pm on Monday, April 4th at the same, 3825 Airport Rd., Colorado Springs, CO.
