

Being born and raised on her parent’s cattle ranch out of Hitchcock Oklahoma, she loved horseback riding, basketball, music and sewing.
The family moved to Colorado in 1947 where Dorothy attended Colorado Springs High School and graduated in 1948.
She then went on to attend Colorado College where she studied with a major in music.
During those years she met Lonnie E. Kennedy who was stationed in Colorado Springs, with the United States Air Force. They were married at First Church of the Nazarene in Colorado Springs on Aug 11th, 1951. They were married for 74 yrs.
She was very active as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, church choir member and enjoyed singing solos. She also served as a church secretary for many years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two of her siblings: Neora (Cargill) Kingery of Colorado Springs, and Winona (Cargill) Strain of Belen, New Mexico. Her brother, Robert "Bob" Cargill of Burns, Oregon, survives her.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by one of her children, Neal F. Kennedy. Dorothy is survived by two of her children, as well as their spouses: Neal Kennedy's wife, Edie (Smart) Kennedy of Colorado Springs, Evelyn J. (Kennedy) Tafoya and her husband, Timothy Tafoya, of Colorado Springs; and Grant E. Kennedy and his wife, Lisa (Hoffmeister) Kennedy of Colorado Springs.
Dorothy's beloved grandchildren include: Clinton Tafoya, Justin Tafoya, Travis Kennedy, Rebekah (Kennedy) Stewart, and Sean Kennedy (deceased). Dorothy was also blessed with five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
When asked what the greatest influence in her life was, she always said “Jesus”. When asked what her greatest accomplishment in life was, she always said “My Children”. She was a Joy. She was loved by all and will always be missed.
Dorothy has reached her life goal! She now walks with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for all eternity.
A funeral service will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, located at 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903, United States. The service is scheduled for September 22, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
