Earl Harry Clark, Jr. was born December 22, 1934, in Pueblo Colorado. He passed away at the age of 90 on November 17, 2025, at his residence in Colorado Springs. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol; his three children Glenn Clark (Cindy), Ted Clark (Caroline), and Christa Clark Raju (Justin); his five grandchildren, Ethan, Haley, Emma, August and Isabel; and his two brothers, Tim Clark and Thom Lowther. His parents were Dorothy Schrader and Earl “Dutch” Clark, both of Pueblo, CO. A true coach at heart, he spent a lifetime sharing his expertise whether it was teaching his kids to ski, play basketball or do their taxes, or more formally in his capacity as instructor and coach at University of Detroit in Michigan, where he worked for 40 years. Upon retirement, he and Carol moved to Estes Park, Colorado, where they enjoyed years of hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, tennis and the occasional rock climbing well into their 70s. In their retirement, they hiked multiple 14ers in Colorado, some more than once. Their adventurous spirit also led them to travel the world from the tip of South America to Iceland, from a weeklong rafting trip down the Colorado River, to the Great Wall of China. Early in life, Earl, son of Detroit Lions Hall-of-Famer Dutch Clark, forged his own path in athletics. He made his mark in tennis, ranking no. 9 in the state as a high schooler and captain of the tennis team in college. After graduation he served as an officer in the Air Force, stationed in Alaska. Following, he earned a graduate degree in physical education from the University of Michigan – where he met Carol. The couple settled in the Detroit area to raise their family. Earl made his career as a professor, as well as tennis, cross country and track and field coach. He was inducted into the Titan Hall of Fame in 1985. He lived a full life of adventure and helping others and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Rocky Mountain Conservancy is preferred.
